Same old song about particles...

Same old song about particles...

Postby Skinnytorus » Wednesday, 26.September 2012, 18:31

Hey guys,
I am thinking about making a space battle scene. The thing I always stumble upon is particles existing in the emitter's coordinate system.
I'm talking about Ballistic in first place. It appears to emit particles within parabola graph pointed along a vector. The particle path calculations seem
to be made before emission which is, as I see it, for keeping a high FPS count.

I just wonder if Ballistic particles could be made to exist in world coordinates (i.e. emitted particles move independently from the emitter)?
Does this require coding a whole new particle system?

sorry I don't really understand what you want.
Can you give a concrete case or example ?

Say, I wanna make a ship fly at some speed along x axis and shoot at another ship (or a static target) from its gun turret (emitter) along z axis. According to plain physics, once the shot is made, the projectile must follow its own trajectory. In wz4 the projectile keeps moving together with the emitter (the gun turret). That's the main problem...

Here is a quick illustration of my thoughts.

ikam
Sorry to reanimate this topic once again. This one is just too important for me as a particle maniac ;).
Has your study brought any results?

OK. Thanks for the efforts.
P.S. My soul is filling with sorrow... I'd better go pray a little more to Almighty Megatron. Maybe he will cast some more bless upon you and a bright idea will occur to you finally ;)

A good question... You are taking about coding as if it were a walk in the park ;). For me it's far from that. I tried learning coding several times and each time I gave up due to huge gaps in my knowledge which I had no time to fill. So, at least I know some of the basics of C++ syntax now ;)
