did you tried with sphsimulator and collision ?

No. It is one of the obvious paths.
1) sph - doesn't create a smooth surface and hungry for sys resources...
2) displaced caps of a cylinder. The caps are in fact disconnected from the body. Gaps appear from time to time.

I was thinking of some shader combination that would act like a clipping plane. But in this case it should be displaced and animated, thus creating the moving liquid surface. I wonder if it's possible to clip an object by another object with animated displacement?
