A bunch of questions

Postby jobro » Thursday, 25.October 2012, 06:19

Hi all werkkzeug1 gurus! I've just recently rediscovered this tool, and I'm working on a demo for possibly show off on Dreamhack Winter 2012. I'm in need for some advices, so let's get to them. :D

1. You can play ogg music. I know how to load the file, but how do I start it with the demo?

2. When make a test demo, where does it export the .exe to?

Thanks for an extremely useful application.

I'm working on a demo for possibly show off on Dreamhack Winter 2012.
Great. :)

1. The music should start automatically when the demo begins.
Did you stack it like that?

2. The file demo.exe will be exported into the same directory which contains the *k1 file.

I saw recently a 3d version of the Popular demo. Was that effect made in Werkkzeug? How was it made?

if you talk about this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIkWjEIV ... e=html5_3d

I think that effect in this video was made with an external tool to convert a 2d video into 3d, maybe directly by youtube (I know there is an option to do it), but not in realtime...

Werkkzeug1 doesn't have this 3D effect (version used to release this demo), however wz3 has a similar 3D stereoscopique effect. to poduce this on Werkkzeug4 I think it's possible with customIPP and a stereo shader (not tested yet)

That's the video I was talking about. Oh well. Have to find another way then.

Another question:

1. Is it possible to cueue the music to start at a specific time? Or do I have to add the delay in the music myself?

2. At some resolutions the demo doesn't show up when exported. The music is played, but nothing shows on screen. Any idea why this can be?

1. No :(, i guess you have to add the delay in the music yourself.
2. It could be a hardware issue(.wz1 is many years old). An example file would be nice.

Thanks! Not a big deal to add in a few bars of silence in my music. Another question:

Is there any limitations how many time objects you can have per demo?

If a limitation exists then Is there anyway one can walk around this issue?

surely internal limits but in my opinion your framerate and your systel will suffer before you reach this limit...

Well the computer specs shouldn't put things in the way with a Core i7. Still the last part of the demo refuses to be played. Now I'm totally new to this tool, so could someone with some more experience take a look and point out what I've done wrong?

ah OK you spoke in term of number of object per stack... effectively there is a limit of 16 operators max stacked on the demo op in your case.
So the solution is to split your demo into different demo parts and group them at final, for example here a create a "sub-demo" with the last 4 elements, and stack this subdemo to the final demo operator.

Thanks a whole lot ikam, that explains my problems.

How does Werkkzeug handle fonts? Does it include the used fonts, or do I have to supply them as well?
